The Growing Popularity of Baseball in Nigeria and What It Means for Local Manufacturers

At our core, we’re not driven by profit or praise but the real lasting impact our work can have and its ripple effects. Think about it: with outstanding glove making, have you ever wondered what that would mean for jobs, local talent, and even the leather industry? Today, we’re breaking down how baseball’s rise in Nigeria can create opportunities far beyond just the baseball field.

Nigerian Leather is a Global Hot Commodity—Here’s Why

At first glance, you might not believe it. Nigerian leather often gets overlooked in favor of imports, labeled as "inferior" by some. But here’s the truth: Some of the premium leather goods you love—luxury bags, belts, and more—started right here in Nigeria.

How? The leather exported from Nigeria are ‘wet hides,’ meaning they are freshly removed from the animals and not fully processed or tanned. These raw hides are shipped abroad, where they’re refined into high-end products. Only a handful of Nigerian companies produce export-grade leather, while the rest supply the local market, where quality can vary.

Other local manufacturers who sell these leather aren’t of such high quality and only sold within the local market .Why the gap? Challenges like unstable power supply, limited tannery expertise, and poor infrastructure hold the industry back.

However, not all hope is lost as the industry still survives today.  Local artisans turn it into beautiful products, proving that with the right support, this sector has massive potential.

Big impact of our company and supporters on the Nigerian economy

Remember when we said there are few companies who export, that is now changing slowly. Because we also need high quality leather, we have partnered with local tanneries, testing samples, sharing technical knowledge and pushing for better standards. And guess what? Nigerian manufacturers are also willing to adapt and grow!

Now, imagine the ripple effect: More baseball players mean more gloves. More gloves mean higher demand for locally sourced leather. And that means more jobs, stronger businesses, and a thriving industry. That’s the kind of win-win we’re fighting for.

The Game is Changing—And Nigeria is Stepping Up to Bat!

Baseball isn’t just a sport, it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to create jobs, uplift local industries, and put Nigerian craftsmanship on the global map. So whether you’re holding a bat, a glove, or just a dream of a stronger economy, we’re in this together.
