Greetings, Baseball Fans and Enthusiasts!
We’re excited to share the story of an unforgettable trip on July 9th, 2024, at JSS Kubwa Black and White. Our dynamic trio of Mergerick Nigeria baseball coaches Hamidou Kafandou, Manato Sato, and their talented photographer Ani Stephen embarked on this delightful journey.
The adventure kicked off with a warm welcome from the school’s incredibly friendly principal. This wasn’t just any principal; this was a sports-loving innovator with a mindset to rival Silicon Valley's finest. After enthusiastic handshakes and hearty welcomes, our coaches were treated to a grand tour of the school’s trophy cabinet.
This was no ordinary trophy cabinet. It showcased an impressive array of the school's athletic achievements, gleaming trophies of all shapes and sizes. But there was more a surprise nestled among the awards: baseball equipment! It turns out JSS Kubwa Black and White had a secret passion for baseball.
Following the inspiring trophy tour, the coaches headed to the school field, where students, prepped by their teachers, eagerly awaited an exciting session of baseball basics. Coach Manato Sato quickly became the star of the show, his long, luscious hair mesmerizing the students.
With introductions complete, the baseball action began. The coaches divided the kids into four teams, ensuring everyone had a chance to participate. They then demonstrated the basics of catching and throwing the baseball, each move performed with flair.
The students practiced in a rectangular pattern, sending balls flying back and forth amidst cheers and giggles. Of course, no training session is without its mishaps. One training ball went rogue and hit a student on the head! Thankfully, it was a soft ball, and after the initial shock, everyone—including the hit student—laughed it off.
Some students picked up the skills quickly, while others took their time, enjoying the learning process and the fun. The field was filled with laughter, cheers, and the occasional clumsy but adorable misstep.
After an exhilarating session on the field, the group returned to the assembly ground for a memorable group photo to commemorate the event. Everyone gathered, grinning from ear to ear, with our coaches and the principal front and center, proudly showcasing their newest baseball enthusiasts.
In the end, it was a day filled with learning, laughter, and the start of a beautiful baseball journey for the students of JSS Kubwa Black and White. Here’s to hoping they continue to hit it out of the park!
**P.S.** A big shoutout to Ani Stephen for capturing all the amazing moments with his camera!
